Leah Evans, a Senior Designer at our salon, shares her wackiest hair transformation story, and how her extra training from Daniel’s courses have rocketed her passion for hairdressing.
When I started at the salon…
I was 14 and a Saturday girl. I built up the confidence to walk into the salon, and ask Daniel if there were any jobs to help, whether that was washing hair or sweeping the floors. I really wanted to get my foot into a salon environment, with the hope that I would fall in love with hairdressing. That is exactly what happened.
I started during the summer holidays, and then when I finished school, I went on to do an apprenticeship alongside working at the salon. I am now a fully qualified Senior Designer, and I can see myself working at Daniel Granger Hairdressing for a while.
One thing I love about the salon is…
The opportunity to progress in such a positive environment. Everyone is treated with equal respect, whether you are an apprentice on your first day, or Daniel himself. Daniel allowed me to observe some of his ‘Cutting and Courage’ courses, and after a year I took part with cutting and learning. There are a range of hairstylists from across the country, so we can learn different techniques and get inspiration from fresh minds.
My favourite hair transformation I have done so far is…
One of my clients came in with a half and half black and red root look. She said she wanted ‘Billie Eilish’ hair, black with neon green roots. We started out by balancing the colour to an even base so we coloured it all black. Then lifted the roots, light enough for the crazy colour to be applied which was a bright neon green. The whole process took about 6 hours in total.
Outside of the salon…
I am always practicing my hair cutting and styling skills. I have a small hair salon at home, with a wash basin and products so it means I can experiment and bring those skills into the salon with me. I have always had a passion for cutting hair, but curling my hair is one thing I can’t live without – it adds that extra bit of elegance when you’ve cut and coloured someone’s hair, and makes them feel so beautiful as they leave the salon.
