Rebecca Jacques, 26, is our Art Director and Stylist. Here she talks about her love for reading and her buzz for giving clients brand new looks …
What I love about hairdressing is …
Cutting hair. It sounds silly because it’s such a simple answer – but it’s true. It gives me a fire in my belly, not like anything else, and I just feel so passionate about it. I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Arts Team at the salon, so I work with Daniel a lot to make collections and use our creativity to showcase our work. My favourite cut is actually my own invention – I called it the Shixie. It’s a cross between a shag cut and a pixie cut.
My hobbies outside of work are …
Reading, I always make time for a book, I am a huge bookworm. I specifically like mindset books, like SAS Ant Middleton’s auto-biography. I find this type of book really inspiring, and they motivate me to always strive for the best.
I am also fully trained in karate. I started around the age of eight and completed all the training I could. Luckily, I’ve only had to use my defences on my brothers playfighting.
One superpower I would want to have is …
To heal people. A lot of clients come in with different dilemmas, and I can fix their hair which helps their mood, but it doesn’t help fix their problems. I love listening to their stories and offering help, but healing them would be what I would love to do.
One story from the salon I love is …
I had a client come in and she’d had her hair cut by Vidal Sassoon, the most iconic hairdresser ever, who pretty much reinvented haircut in the 60s. I was so excited to cut her hair, but felt so much pressure. She had a horizontal graduation, a type of haircut, shorter at back and longer near front. She loved it, and is now a regular client of mine.
